|The 3rd generation “new iPad”|
During last night’s Apple event, there were a couple of announcements that happened but the higlight and most awaited part of the show was the unveiling of Apple’s newest addition to their iPad family, the 3rd generation, the Resolutionary “new iPad” – yes it’s just called the new iPad (neither iPad 3 nor iPad HD as speculated by many).
The new iPad now sports Apple’s famous Retina Display (same with iPhone 4S) capable of 2048×1536 pixels @ 264ppi (pixels per inch). With Retina Display, the new iPad screen now looks much brighter and crispier compared to the previous iPad 2. As mentioned by Apple, text is now razor sharp, colors are more vibrant, photos & videos have richer details.
New & Faster Processor
Apple’s newest iPad is powered by the new A5X chip processor. Its a dual-core CPU for processing and a quad-core GPU for graphics. With this big improvement in GPU, mobile gamers can now ditch their PSPs and other gaming devices in favor of this new iPad.
Camera and Optics
Apple has brought the same camera optics of iPhone 4S to this new iPad. The rear camera has improved and now has the 5MP iSight camera with autofocus. In addition, it’s also capable of 1080p full HD video recording. The front facing camera still remains to have VGA quality though.
Faster Network Speed
The rumors were right with this one. The 3rd generation new iPad now has 4G LTE support capable of reaching a maximum speed of up to 73 Mbps. With LTE on iPad, internet browsing, streaming, and downloading is blazingly fast.
Software-wise, the new iPad has the latest version of iOS installed with it, the iOS 5.1. There are a number of added features and bug fixes in iOS 5.1 that’s worth for an upgrade.
