Today marks the downfall of

A very sad news today strucked all Mininova (a torrent search engine and directory) users. From now on, administrators of the website said that they are now limiting to their Content Distribution service. This would mean that they will now only accept torrents published and distributed by producers and artists for free through Mininova. The site sponsors the required seeding bandwidth and provides the exposure on their website.

This is a very sad news for all of us Mininova users since torrents are now limited to those free contents published by registered members of the service. Mininova has been one of my primary sources of torrent files for the past years but today marks their downfall. Basing on people’s comments on their official blog, I’m sure people will now shift to other torrent sites because of this major move done by the management.

According to their official blog, administrators have done such act to comply with the ruling of the Court of Utrecht last August. According to the court’s verdict, the management have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles.

If you are a Mininova fan, start looking for alternative torrent sites for you to use. You can consider or if you want. These are the sites I’m currently using.

For more information regarding Mininova’s Content Distribution news, you can read their official blog or the FAQ section in their website.
